The Family Letter Blog is inspired by the way my grandfather Joseph Bush Kingsbury and his extended family kept in touch with one another for most of the 20th century. Each participant would add a letter about what was going on in their lives, sometimes including pictures or news articles. As the letter made its way around the country, each person would add an update, remove his previous letter and send the thick packet of family stories on its way. What a treasure trove of first-hand accounts of family history.
On this blog, you may find snippets from those letters but you will also find my current genealogical discoveries about my father’s side of the family. This includes the Kingsbury and Bush families (from Osage, Iowa and before that New England), the Bryant and Preston families from Washington DC from the end of the Civil War and before that Wisconsin and Massachusetts, respectively and the James McNabb family from Baltimore, Maryland.
